Flash and SEO - Can they coexist? Back  | Print

For many years Macromedia Flash technology has been utilised to create some of the most eye catching graphically driven websites to experience on the web. While impressive to visitors with its interactive multimedia features, Flash has had its detractors who consider that from a Search Engine Optimisation standpoint a Flash website may be deemed invisible.

So, should Flash be avoided?

No. While there may be issues surrounding the indexing of Flash websites, Google now claim to be able to, at least, partially index Flash files. The most important consideration should be to develop websites that incorporate Flash elements with HTML rich content. This will then perform the vital function of providing an environment that is optimal for Search Engine crawling as well as bringing graphically engaging features to the fore.
